Herb Gardens

For me, using fresh herbs adds that extra bit of zing to the food that I make. Because we were um, rather confined in space at our last house I would buy my fresh herbs at my local grocery store. At $2.49 for one package of herbs, it was rather costly. I figured that since we're in a new house that has a large yard plus a deck and a patio...I had decided that I was going to have an Herb Garden.

I've seen at our local cooking store this groovy apparatus for starting herb gardens...the down side is that it's priced right around $100.00. I looked at this a couple of times and besides the price being a little hairy I realized that I'm not wanting to start my herb garden from seeds and wait months on end until I can reap the rewards. I want to go to a nursery and buy small plants and have a container garden. I have oodles of terracotta pots (yes they are in a box in our garage...somewhere). I figure that I can have some pots on the deck or the patio and be able to pluck leaves when I need them. Now at a whopping $2.47 per plant, I'm able to reap the rewards quite quickly and have them continue to grow, versus going bad in the refrigerator because I couldn't use all of the herbs in the package.

I'll keep this updated and let you know how it goes...I am excited about this project!
